The Story Behind the Art : “Making Home”
Every piece of art carries a story — one that begins with the artist but continues through every person who encounters it.
This story begins with the word “home.”
What does home mean? Sometimes it’s the place our parents built, filled with familiar sounds and smells. Other times, it’s a feeling we chase but can’t quite grasp — a sense of belonging that slips between places, never fully landing. While we often think of home as a physical space, it’s also deeply psychological — a symbol of stability, belonging, and connection.
This painting explores the process of finding that sense of home within ourselves — the journey of building an inner foundation as we grow and individuate. Each layer of paint mirrors an inner effort to form structure and identity.
The piece evolves through overlapping experiences: loose, undefined shapes gradually transform into more refined forms, ultimately connecting into a cohesive whole.
The process of painting, like the search for home, is deeply layered. Each brushstroke carries emotion — curiosity, doubt, longing, hope. I often find that what begins as uncertainty becomes the very ground that steadies the piece. With every layer added, the painting gains depth and coherence, as if it’s teaching me something about what it means to belong to myself.
